The University of Adelaide

The University of Adelaide is a member of the prestigious Group of Eight universities of Australia, combining cutting-edge research with high-profile community involvement. The University of Adelaide provides a well-rounded education to over 16,000 students, 17% of which are postgraduate coursework students. For over 40 years, the Adelaide Graduate School of Business has been delivering professional postgraduate coursework programs in management studies. The school has gone through many changes, including a name change, expansion into offshore locations (Singapore and Hong Kong), and the development of a dedicated Executive Education arm. This year the school is launching a Master of Strategy, a unique program that can be combined with the MBA or taken separately.

The AGSB collaborates with and draws on the talents of academic staff and industry consultants from around the world, enabling us to deliver sophisticated, contemporary, and relevant courses that meet the needs of today’s professionals.

Today there are over 1200 students enrolled in the school’s MBA programs, delivered in Adelaide and offshore. The school prides itself on its ability to provide services tailored to the multitude of students. But don’t just take it from us— read from the testimonials of our many students who have found studying at the AGSB an exceptional, life-impacting experience.

The MBA and Master of Strategy Programs

An MBA is more than a qualification. Completion of a rigorous MBA degree testifies to your ability to map out a course of action and see it through. It equips you with valuable life-long skills in critical thinking, leadership, understanding behaviour and analysis that are useful beyond the workplace. For those who wish to extend on the MBA, the MBA (Advanced) program offers additional core and elective courses to provide a more serious and rounded education. The Master of Strategy is for those in middle to senior managerial positions; this program is unique in Australia and is delivered by academics that are experts in the field of Strategy.

In Adelaide, AGSB programs are delivered on a trimester basis (three per year). Classes are conducted on a weekly or fortnightly basis, or as intensive blocks over several days, and students also have the opportunity to enrol in Summer School courses. Classes combine local and international, full-time and part-time students, studying in the MBA, MBA (Advanced), Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma, and the Master of Strategy programs. This provides a truly diverse setting and a valuable experience for all students.

Student Learning Support

The AGSB prides itself on providing study support to Adelaide-based students in award programs. Study support takes many forms and includes individual intense coaching in critical thinking and effective reading; advice on referencing; linguistic expression, grammar and report writing. This service is used by local and by international students, as it is common experience to face challenges in returning to study after spending several years in the workforce. Student Learning Support is managed by the Student Learning Support Co-ordinator, who also designs the Bridging Program for international students (see below).

This valuable service is available to international students across the University, no matter what their country of origin or academic interest.

Living in Adelaide

The capital of South Australia, Adelaide is the ideal cosmopolitan city with a population of just over one million. Framed by parklands, hills and a coastline of golden sandy beaches, Adelaide is attractive, unpolluted, well designed and welcoming.

The lifestyle is affordable and easy-paced, safe, friendly and accessible, making Adelaide one of the world’s most liveable cities. It has all the benefits of living in a larger city yet is more affordable than Melbourne or Sydney.

Costs for accommodation, food and transport are significantly less than in Sydney or Melbourne. This is supported by independent research undertaken by CPA Australia, the nation's peak business, accounting and finance body which conducted a detailed analysis comparing costs of housing, groceries, public transport, dining out and city car parking to determine how living in Adelaide compared to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

People come from all over the world to make Adelaide their home, and this multi-cultural setting has given rise to a vibrant and diverse way of life. Adelaide is famous for its varied, yet extremely accessible range of food, wine and entertainment. The city has several café districts, hundreds of world-class restaurants, a central Chinatown, modern and traditional pubs and bars, and is gateway to the many superb wine regions of South Australia. Adelaide has a strong focus on the Arts, and plays host to many festivals and exhibitions, particularly embracing ethnicity and innovation in the arts. Visit the University's International Students site for more information on living and studying in Adelaide.
