Established in 1897 loreto Normanhurst is a leading Sydney independent catholic secondary boarding and day school for girls. Located in Sydney’s leafy Upper North Shore the school is set on over 25 acres of glorious grounds and offers state of the art facilities for approximately 900 students over 200 of whom are boarders. The school fosters a liberal education with self-motivated learning and pursuit of personal excellence central to its teaching and learning philosophy. Each student is encouraged to fulfill her personal and academic potential in an atmosphere of freedom care and respect for the individual.
Loreto Normanhurst provides an education within the Catholic and specifically Loreto tradition. The values of justice sincerity truth felicity and freedom as well as a deep respect for the contribution of women underpin the mission of our school and every aspect of school life.
Loreto Normanhurst has a strong tradition of academic excellence. Our students develop a love of learning. They engage with passionate exemplary teachers who value the learning relationship. Growth as a whole person is at the core of how a Loreto Normanhurst student is educated. To provide for the needs of gifted students or students with specific learning needs the school has the support of the Learning Enrichment Faculty. In Years 7 and Year 8 the emphasis is on general literacy skills; in Year 9 and Year 10 students reduce an elective and work instead in a small group to receive assistance with general assignments; In Year 11 they receive support through the Fundamentals of English course and in Year 12 Senior Study Skills is tailored to suit individual needs. Senior students are offered the opportunity to study a course at either Macquarie University or The University of Sydney. The universities give the students credit towards a later degree.
Extra-Curricular & Sport
Loreto Normanhurst prides itself on being a school where all students can find a way to succeed and shine in one or many areas and offers an extensive Extra-curricular program. We have a large number of music ensembles and social justice groups in operation as well as opportunities to be part of the Mock Trial team debating chess Club and a myriad of other stimulating activities. The school also supports the many students who participate at an elite level in either sport or cultural pursuits such as music and dance. There is also an extensive array of sports which cater for girls of all skill levels.
The Boarding School is set within 13. 5 hectares of beautiful gardens. Boarders add a unique dimension to this wonderful school and are a vibrant and integral part of the Loreto Normanhurst community. A well organised stable and caring environment characterises our boarding school where all staff work in partnership with parents to make the most of the boarding experience offered at Loreto Normanhurst.
