Head of school Mr Warwick Dean The Hutchins School is an Anglican day and boarding school for boys from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. Established in 1846, Hutchins is one of the oldest continually operating schools in Australia.
Our Vision is to provide an inspirational education where each boy strives to achieve his personal best and is willing to serve his community as an informed and active citizen; locally, nationally and globally. Our Mission is to provide a supportive learning community that works together to build character of boys.
Hutchins has a proud history of academic success. Our students consistently rank amongst the highest academic achievers in Tasmania and nationally. The school boasts 23 Rhodes Scholars.
Located in Tasmania, only five kilometres from the CBD of Hobart, The Hutchins School offers outstanding facilities including modern classrooms, science and computer laboratories, libraries, a performing arts centre and multiple sporting grounds. Hutchins is at the forefront of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) in education.
We have an extensive co-curricular program offering music, performing arts, debating, sports and the Duke of Edinburgh International Award. The School offers a unique Power of 9 program which encourages Year 9 students to develop the skills, positive attitudes and values necessary for success through Years 10 - 12 and beyond.
International students reside in the School’s boarding facility, 'Burbury House' which in 2012 underwent a full refit and refurbishment to world-class standards. Students enjoy spacious rooms and bathrooms, welcoming leisure areas including a theatre room, a games room, a kitchenette and music rooms.
Hutchins is a founding-member of the International Boys' Schools Coalition (IBSC), an accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and a member of Independent Schools Tasmania (IST).
